Made in Berlin by BRAUN Lighting Solutions – simply better light.

The initial situation:
Mariannenplatz, named after Princess Marianne of Prussia, is located in the Kreuzberg neighbourhood of the Berlin district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. It is a relatively large square with a park-like character and a spacious lawn for sunbathing. At its northern end is St Thomas’ Church, at the main entrance to which an original Berlin 9-flame suspended gas lamp illuminates the forecourt. Mariannenplatz is home to the former Bethanien hospital, now known as the Bethanien artists’ centre, and the district’s cultural office.

The customer’s wish:
The modernisation of the exterior lighting was intended to create a stylish lighting situation that does justice to both the Kunstquartier Bethanien and the old parks on Mariannenplatz. To this end, the existing listed historic luminaires were refurbished, modernised and equipped with our energy-efficient luminaires according to the specifications of the planners. His.lux LED-Modulen converted. It was important to the clients that the new lighting was modelled on the look and aesthetics of the old gas lights. It was also the client’s wish that the “modern” lighting also operated at the site, including the façade spotlights, around the Kunstquartier up to the Kreuzberg open-air cinema should undergo a comprehensive upgrade.

Our solution:
In the course of the refurbishment, all the historic lights were first professionally dismantled and disassembled in the company’s own metalworking workshop where necessary. All material-fatigued components were replaced, so that the new LED-Beleuchtungseinheit The new system, including a specially manufactured round reflector, could be installed ready for operation. All the luminaire heads were then remounted on the historic Berlin bundle pillar masts, which had also been repaired, and electrically connected. A large number of historic bundle pillar masts were also renewed as part of the most complex civil engineering measures. The “modern” lighting in the area was also extensively cleaned, repaired and refurbished. Several conical steel masts also had to be partially replaced. Furthermore, all cable faults were localised and professionally rectified. The refurbished façade spotlights now illuminate the impressive front façade of Kunstquartier Bethanien again, so that the complete lighting of Kunstquartier Bethanien and the Mariannenplatz park could be put into operation for the first time in a decade.
A lively place in the “Kreuzberg neighbourhood” is now showing its “bright” side again!
