Made in Berlin by BRAUN Lighting Solutions – simply better light.

The initial situation:
The town of Backnang in Baden-Württemberg, around 27 kilometres north-east of Stuttgart, has a historic half-timbered architecture that is well worth seeing. Until 2010, the historic town centre was still traditionally illuminated with high-maintenance gas lamps.

The customer’s wish:
The existing gas lighting was to be converted to LED GasLight as requested and commissioned by the municipality. The historic luminaire bodies were therefore to be retained. We were commissioned with this project because of our expertise in the field of converting gas luminaires to LED light with GasLight optics.

Our solution:
IA total of 106 historic luminaires were realised with our His.lux LED-Modulen converted to state-of-the-art, energy-efficient LED lighting with GasLight optics. Our His.lux Led modules are manufactured in-house in Berlin and can therefore also be customised. The installation was then carried out on site and could be realised quickly and cost-effectively. Our His.lux-Module are visually modelled on the original incandescent bulb of a gas lantern and therefore blend in harmoniously with the existing gas luminaire body. For the residents and the many tourists in Backnang, the difference is barely recognisable. They have the feeling that their path will continue to be illuminated by ‘gaslight’.

This measure, subsidised with funds from Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, was Germany’s largest LED project for listed building lighting in 2010. From an energy and environmental point of view, the conversion was a complete success. Instead of the previous 1,600 watts, each light now only consumes 24 to 43 watts.
