Made in Berlin by BRAUN Lighting Solutions – simply better light.

The initial situation:

Charles Bridge is a historically significant bridge built in the 14th century over the Vltava River in Prague, which connects the Old Town with the Lesser Town. It is one of the oldest preserved stone bridges in Europe and one of the city’s landmarks. The Old Town Square is the central market square in Prague’s Old Town. It covers more than 9000 m². Romanesque and Gothic foundations can be found in the cellars of the houses surrounding this square. Renaissance, baroque and rococo houses stand on it. The so-called Coronation Path leads from the Old Town Square through the narrow Karlsgasse to the Charles Bridge.

The customer’s wish:

The client, the City of Prague, wanted all the electric luminaires to be converted to historical gas lighting.

Our solution:

In 2008, all historic street lights were successfully converted to gas lighting in co-operation with the Czech company Eltodo. We supplied the gas burner technology and accessories for around 500 historic luminaires, which is an important task for us as a specialist in gas lighting.r Gasbeleuchtungstechnik was not a particular challenge. Old components were specially reconstructed for the lights on the Charles Bridge to enable the lantern lighters to light the gas lanterns by hand again. From the Old Town via the Coronation Way to Charles Bridge, the beautiful candelabras shine in their original gas light.
