Made in Berlin by BRAUN Lighting Solutions – simply better light.
The initial situation:
The Semperoper in Dresden is one of the most colourful buildings in German history. The front of the building is adorned with 3-light historic candelabras, whose old-fashioned gas lighting was far too dark and even failed in places. As a result, climbing the stairs was not safe for visitors due to the risk of falling.
The customer’s wish:
The state of Saxony decided to convert the historic candelabras in front of the Semper Opera House to LED lighting. The light colour should be based on the previous gas light. In addition, all light fittings, including the supporting structure, were to be professionally refurbished and old parts replaced. The complexity of the project required a provider who could offer a complete solution in terms of both technology and craftsmanship. That’s why we were given the opportunity to present our solutions on this topic.
Our solution:
In addition to retrofitting with our His.lux LED-Modulen in LED GasLight optics, extensive reconstruction work was necessary on the candelabras. The candelabras, which weighed several tonnes, were dismantled and transported to our company site in Berlin for restoration. Special rubber plates were laid on the floor to protect the historic stone floor from damage when the lights were removed. The candelabras were restored with great care and attention to detail in the company’s own metal construction workshop. Missing decorative elements were recast and professionally reinstalled. Subsequently, the tried and tested His.lux 4-Module and His.lux Premium-Module built-in. The uniform, warm white light colour of the His.lux LED installation kits, which imitate gas light, emphasise the unique character of the Semperoper at dusk.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors enjoy the external charm of the famous opera house, which is now shining in the best light once again.
